DJ Screw and Taoism

The last two articles from the NYT’s I read today I thought were interesting juxtaposed together.

In the first Ian Johnson looks at the growing revival of Taoism in modern China.

The construction of holy sites (like the Taoist complex on Mount Mao) is seen by officials as a boon for the tourism industry.” More (here)

In the second Jon Caramanica explores how the legacy of Houston hip-hop DJ legend, DJ Screw is being embraced as a starting point across many contemporary musicians/producers, from the likes of Oneohtrix Point Never, to a variety of groups making witch house. More (here)
